Becoming Visible on Layar

From LightRod

Jump to: navigation, search

1. To see your layer created with LightRod on the Layar browser you will need to apply to Layar for a developer account.

2. Once approved, which can take a business day or more, you will then be given a developers key and password, that is visible in the 'Profile' section of your Layar admin panel.

3. You can create a Layar by clicking 'Create Layar' when logged in to the Layar Admin panel. This will give you a number of fields to fill out, but the two important fields that you will have obtained from your LightRod installation are the POI URL and the Name. Copy these from your 'working install' page into the Layar panel. On completion of filling out the form, you will be able to test your Layar in a mobile phone with the following instructions:

On iPhone

iPhone: You'll need an iPhone 3GS with iPhone OS 3.1 or higher. Download the app from the App Store (search for 'layar'). In the general Settings app of your iPhone, you will find the Layar settings. Here you can enter your developer ID and key to test your layers.

On Android

  • You'll need an Android phone with version 1.5 or higher.
  • Download the latest version of the Layar app from the Market.
  • Ensure you create a user account on Layar from their site or in the browser (and set this account for your Layar browser), with the same e-mail address as your developer account. Your developed layers should be carried across into this new account, and visible under the tab Yours->Test

Publishing to the public

  • To publish your Layar so that the public can explore it, you will need to click Your Layars->Request Publication inside the Layar admin developer panel. This process can take up to 5 working days.
